As the frigid temps recede and the powder piles up, the mountains beckon. Of course, things are still a bit chillier up in the thinner air, so we offer a few new ways to warm up on your next weekend escape.

Whiskey

Soothe chattering teeth from the inside out with a stop at Vail’s new 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Co., located just off Gore Creek Drive. Made with local ingredients, the whiskey (and other spirits) will warm your belly; the fact that a portion of sales go to the Wounded Warrior Project and other nonprofits will warm your heart. When you’re ready to move beyond casual sipper to connoisseur, stop in at the Stanley Hotel’s Whiskey Bar. This Estes Park institution and Shining inspiration is home to more than just ghosts—like a collection of almost 600 whiskeys and the Whiskey University, where knowledgeable staff guide patrons through tastings.

Grub on the Go

Snowmass Viceroy helps get your mornings off right—hot, gooey, and delicious, that is—with ready-to-grab breakfast burritos from the ski concierge, so you can snag fresh tracks with a full belly. Meanwhile, Beaver Creek’s going Belgian, by offering Belgian waffle sticks (with chocolate, whipped cream, and sprinkles, of course) slope-side, so you can carb load on the go.

Appropriate Attire

One of our “Big Ideas” picks for its durable, warm line of wool outdoor apparel, Pagosa Springs-based Voormi releases stretch woven waterproof wool ski pants and jacket this winter ($495, $549). Keeping your core body temp up just got a lot more chic.
