Jewelry designer Anita Gronstedt’s work is based on traditions handed down for hundreds of years by the Sami—the indigenous people inhabiting parts of far northern Norway, Sweden, and Finland (also known as Lapland). A native of the region herself, Gronstedt creates handmade braided bracelets (pictured above, $75 to $225) from traditional materials like reindeer leather, hand-twinned pewter and silver thread, and reindeer antler buttons. She updates the look with new techniques, designs, and colors, including additions like 14 karat gold-plated beads, sterling silver beads, copper threads, and—most recently—diamonds.
