Our Top Picks for January 12-18

Get Involved is a weekly series pointing readers toward community-oriented events, volunteer opportunities, and good causes in Colorado.

Unfortunately, Colorado residents are finding themselves with a little extra time on their hands now that the Broncos are no longer on the road to the Super Bowl. Here are three ways to get your mind off the heartbreaking loss to the Indianapolis Colts and get involved with the community you’ve been united in orange with this past season.

Treasure Hunt: Be quick to solve the puzzle and you could win $100 at the Thornton Lions Club’s treasure hunt. You’ll only have one hour to find all the clues, which must be turned in to win. The only catch is that you’ll have to solve the first clue to find the event’s location: “Take a gander to the mountain that you do not have to climb. But you had better hurry, or you will run out of time. Here you will find the very first clue. Keep it with you to put in your queue.” Thursday, 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Frosty’s Frozen Five & Ten: Lace up your sneakers and fulfill your New Year’s resolution by participating in Frosty’s Frozen Five & Ten—an annual race in Littleton that starts and finishes at Hudson Gardens. Runners can choose to race for five or 10 miles along the Platte River Trail. The official beneficiary of the race is the Fetal Health Foundation. Saturday, 9 a.m.; 6115 S. Santa Fe Dr.

Eat Drink Give: Join some of Colorado’s best chefs for a night of delicious hors d’oeuvres and cocktails at Acorn’s Eat Drink Give event this Sunday. For $100, you can taste all the treats, including roasted lamb, stone crab, sea urchin custard, sweet & sour pumpkin, and mint appetizer. If that isn’t enough to entice you, $85 of each ticket sold will be donated to St. Joseph’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, while sales from the night’s silent auction will also benefit the NICU. Sunday, 6 to 9:30 p.m.; Acorn, 3350 Brighton Blvd.
