Visit the Denver Botanic Gardens (for free!): February 16 marks the year’s second free-admission day for Colorado residents at the Denver Botanic Gardens. Make sure to visit the indoor orchid showcase, where the Orangery and Marnie’s Pavilion have been transformed into a tropical paradise filled with aromatic citrus and flowering orchids. Guests can also create their own walking tour by using the Gardens Navigator and seeing what’s currently in bloom. Can’t make it Monday? The Denver Botanic Gardens are always looking for volunteers. Monday, 9 a.m to 5 p.m.; 1007 York St.

Ski for the National Sports Center for the Disabled: Support the NSCD by attending the 40th Annual Wells Fargo Ski Cup at Winter Park Resort. The NSCD serves more than 3,000 children and adults with disabilities who participate in various sports and recreational programs, and the Wells Fargo Ski Cup is their largest fundraiser. The general public can get involved by registering and fundraising by February 18. Though February 1 was the cut off for many of the larger lodging rewards, participants can still earn season passes and lift tickets for the weekend. You can also support the cause by participating in the two-day silent auction. Friday to Sunday, 8 a.m.; Winter Park Resort, 100 Winter Park Dr., Winter Park

Run for the Fetal Health Foundation: The last event in the Colorado Runner Winter Distance Series, the Snowman Stampede offers two distance races (5 and 10 miles, respectively) with a portion of the registration fees benefiting the Fetal Health Foundation. The foundation funds research for fetal distresses and syndrome, while also functioning as a resource for families. The 5-mile event is $35 if you register ahead of time ($40 on race day), while the 10-mile event is $45 ($50 on race day). If you want to do both, it’s $55 in advance ($60 on race day). All participants will receive a gender-specific technical running shirt and a one-year subscription to Colorado Runner. For those who don’t want to run but would still like to help out, the event needs folks to volunteer at registration and the finish line. Saturday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.; Hudson Garden and Event Center, 6115 S.Santa Fe Dr., Littleton

Climb to Fight for Air: This weekend, an anticipated 1,800 Coloradans will scale the 56-story Republic Plaza (that’s 1,098 steps), the tallest building in the entire Rocky Mountain region of the U.S., as a part of the Anthem Fight for Air Climb. The 10th annual event benefits the American Lung Association in Colorado by raising funds to provide education, research, and advocacy to fight lung disease. Essentially a vertical road race, participants must pay a $35 registration fee and collect an additional $100 in pledges prior to the event in order to climb. For the more ambitious athletes out there, $50 plus $100 in pledges will let you be an Ultimate Climber, meaning you race to see how many times you can climb the 56 floors in an hour period (last year’s record was 5 ascents). A $65 registration fee and $100 in pledges will let you participate in both the regular and Ultimate Climb. Those unable to participate can make a donation online. Sunday, 7:30 a.m. (Ultimate Climbers), 8:45 a.m. (individual and team climbers); Republic Plaza Building, 370 17th St.
