Shanahan Ridge Fencing Project: Volunteers are needed to help Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks install a cattle fence. The fence will help curb an invasion of nonnative tall oat grass, a thick grass associated with cattle grazing that affects biodiversity by displacing more palatable native species. OSMP will provide lunch, safety gear, extra water, and leather gloves. Volunteers are asked to dress appropriately for Colorado weather and to work in an outdoor setting. Sturdy boots, layered clothing and sunscreen will be needed. Registration and more info, including a complete list of supplies, can be found here. Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; 1319 Wildwood Rd., Boulder

New Belgium CLIPS Beer & Film Tour: Attendees of this free festival can sample brews from New Belgium’s Lips of Faith series, along with popular classics, and screen short films made by New Belgium fans. Proceeds from the event will benefit Community Cycles, a nonprofit community bike shop in Boulder. Food vendors will be on-site at the Valmont Disc Golf Park, and guests are encouraged to bring blankets or low chairs for movie viewing. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Doors open at 8 p.m., with the first film screening at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, 8 to 10:30 p.m.; 4942 Valmont Rd., Boulder

Denver Urban Scholars 2015 Summer Games: Teams of four to six will compete in several Olympic-themed games—from basketball to Ping-Pong to relay races—at this annual event, which raises money for Denver Urban Scholars, an organization that helps at-risk youths graduate high school. Adult beverages and food will be available for purchase, and the event will end with a closing ceremony and medal presentation, just like the real deal. Registration costs $350 per team. VIP upgrades are available for $25 per person, and beverage bracelets can be purchased for $30. Saturday, 1 to 7 p.m.; Wings Over the Rockies, 7711 E. Academy Blvd. #1

3rd Annual Sand in the City Festival: Hosted by the Arvada Chamber of Commerce, this free beach party will feature local food, artisan vendors, craft beer, and giant sand sculptures. Children will be able to dig for buried treasure in the kid zone. And for the first time in the event’s history, one lucky winner will have a personal photo made larger than life by a master sand sculptor. This two-day festival raises funds for the Arvada Chamber of Commerce, as well as the city’s business, nonprofit, and community offerings.
