Extreme Community Makeover Work Day: Join Extreme Communtiy Makeover for one of their weekly work days. Participants may remove graffiti, do landscaping, paint buildings or fences, or other projects requested by the residents. 34th Annual Freedom Run 5K: Celebrate America’s birthday with a 5K benefitting Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice in Evergreen. The run follows a gentle route through scenic residential areas. Adult participants pay $30 before race day ($35 the day of), and those 18 and under pay $15 before race day ($20 the day of). After crossing the finish line, runners and their families can enjoy music, games, and goods at Nick’s Prop Fitness. Let Freedom Run 5K, 10K and Kids Run: This trio of races is a way for the whole family to get in some exercise on the Fourth of July before the big barbecue later that night. Registration for the 5K costs $35 before race day ($40 the day of) and $45 for the 10K ($50 the day of). The Kids Run is free for children aged 3 to 7 years old. Proceeds benefit Heritage House, a Louisville organization that provides a safe haven, mentoring, and classes for at-risk teenage girls. HuHot Half on the 4th Marathon & 5K: Enjoy a historic piece of Colorado Springs on July 4th with this race benefitting The Home Front Cares. This fast course begins and ends in Monument Valley Park. Registration for the half marathon costs $65 until July 3 and $75 afterward. Registration for the 5K costs $25 before July 3 and $30 afterward. The Home Front Cares provides emergency grants to help pay expenses such as rent for Colorado veterans and military families. Saturday, 7 a.m.; 170 W. Cache La Poudre St., Colorado Springs

Run 4 Greeley 2015: This Independence Day event will benefit the local Greeley Transitional House through 1K and 5K walk/races. Registration for the race is $30 for participants 12 and older and $20 for those under 12. Registration for those 12 and older jumps to $35 on race day. Immediately following the Run 4 Greeley race is the Greeley Stampede Independence Day Parade. The Greeley Transitional House offers emergency and transitional shelter, case management, and follow-up programs for the homeless and their families. Saturday, 7:15 a.m.; 1501 10th Ave., Greeley

3rd Annual MHM Cancer Sucks Freedom Swim: Started by Peter and Kathy Alfino after their daughter was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in January 2013, this year’s race will benefit the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. There are half-, 1.2-, 2.4- and 4.8-mile options and three age groups for swimmers at the Grant Ranch Bowles Reservoir.
