Why: While Denver’s weather has been balmy (see No. 3), there is still powder in the mountains. Pack up your snowshoes and go on this 2.5-mile trek.

Why: There will be no librarians asking for silence at this sure-to-be-loud record release party (first 50 people to show up—with a DPL card, of course—get a free copy).

6. Join Tattered Cover’s Travel Lovers’ Book Club | Mar. 14

Why: A low-maintenance book club (show up when you can, read when you can) sure to inspire vacation plans tackles In the Kingdom of Ice: The Grand and Terrible Polar Voyage of the USS Jeannette by Hampton Sides this month.

7. Tour the Metro Area’s Specialty Food Markets | Your Choice

Why: This is technically a free activity because you aren’t obligated to purchase items from Denver’s top 20 specialty food markets while on this tour, but it will be pretty hard not to stock your pantry with an array of lentils, spices, and hard-to-find flours when you visit these local shops.

8. Attend Denver Art Museum’s Free First Saturday | Mar. 5

Why:Fracture: Cubism & After,” a look at the evocative art movement, closes this month; don’t miss your chance to see the exhibit.

9. Visit Fort Collins | Your Choice

Why: This “First-Timer’s Guide” does include some spendy options, but the “if you do one thing…” pick is free: Take a stroll around Old Town.

10. Tour the Denver Mint | Your Choice

Why: If the presidential election has you thinking about your country and how it works, make sure to book a free tour at the Denver Mint to learn more about how that penny in your pocket was made.
