To take on an ecological issue you’ve likely never heard of—the fact that the organic latex foam in high-end mattresses is too flammable to recycle—Chris Conway has created a secondary market for organic latex. The former real estate developer recycles mattresses into Green Pup Dog Beds, memory foam–esque beds for Fido. Moreover, Conway hires women recently released from prison to make the beds. Visit Green Pup Dog Beds for local retailers, such as Lafayette’s Struttin’ Pup, where prices range from $80.99 for a Chihuahua bed to $160.99 for a special-order mastiff version. Or, if you’re ready to recycle your own bed, take it to Spring Back Colorado, the nonprofit mattress recycler Conway runs.
