Prairie Crossroad, March 24-April 15

Morgan County might be a small community (nestled in the eastern plains of Colorado, it’s home to slightly more than 28,000 people), but what it lacks in size, it makes up for in diversity. It is this fact that brought poet Hilary DePolo and photographer Kit Hedman to the region to interview and photograph residents over the course of 18 months. This exhibit, which combines DePolo’s words with Hedman’s images, is the culmination of the artists’ work in the community. Attendees get an intimate look at the private and public lives of the people of Morgan’s County, from stunning portraits of African refugees to images of school children learning to understand one another. Thu 6-9 p.m. for the opening reception; by appointment. Abuzz Gallery, 3340 Walnut St., 303-722-8676. Free.

New Kids on the Block, March 24

At this technicolor ’80s-themed beer fest, get the best of both worlds: old-school style and new-school Colorado beers. Featuring 20 of the state’s newest brewers (all brands are two years old or younger), this hoppy celebration highlights the ever-growing community of beer makers and beer lovers. Attendees can treat themselves to unlimited samples from the visiting brewers, which include Fiction Brewing Company, Little Machine Beer, and Spangalang Brewery, as well as a three-course paired beer dinner from Call To Arms Brewing Company. And, to complement the evening’s throwback tunes, neon-bedecked beer connoisseurs can face off in an epic costume competition. Thu 7-10 p.m. The Lobby, 2191 Arapahoe St., 720-722-1223. $30-$45.

Long Ear’s Easter Egg Hunt, March 26

Hundreds of eggs will be hidden over 27 acres for the mining museum’s inaugural hunt. Kids can collect up to 10 eggs as they wander among steam engines, an ore mill, and more than 4,000 other artifacts. They’ll also enjoy cake and lemonade, story time, and Easter-themed crafts—plus making friends with the museum’s donkeys, Nugget and Chism, who are descendants of the original burros that hauled ore from the mines before the use of compressed-air trams. (Talk about an upgrade over the Easter bunny.) Sat 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Western Museum of Mining and Industry, 225 N. Gate Blvd., Colorado Springs, 719-488-0880. $5-$10.

Mighty Beer Run: Platt Park, March 26

Hydration stations are boring (who needs water, anyway), so head to a “Dehydration Station” during this boozy road race. Serious runners should register as “competitors” (the top five finishers take home a golden chalice) while walkers and joggers sign up as “crawlers.” Both races allow participants to choose their own routes (about a 5K worth of running) between four iconic Denver breweries, guzzling down a pint at the dehydration stations when needed. Stick around for the after-party at the Pub on Pearl for discounted drafts and a free slice of pizza. Sat 2:30 p.m. Declaration Brewing, 2030 S. Cherokee St., 303-777-6887. $40.
