Temple Grandin, Rupert Isaacson, and Kinetic Learning: Dr. Temple Grandin, renowned speaker and author on the subject of autism, and Rupert Isaacson, of Horse Boy Foundation, author of The Horse Boy, and producer of the award-winning film of the same name, are on a national tour to discuss social skills for people with autism, transitioning into the workforce with autism, the importance of kinetic learning, and more. Hope Haven Rwanda Spring 2016 Event: The Rwandan genocide of the early 1990s left the small country scarred. In the wake of the tragedy, Hope Haven Rwanda—a school that has helped educate more than 350 children by offering classes in fundamental skills—was formed. Join Hope Haven as they host Immaculee Ilibagiza, a genocide survivor and renowned author and speaker, at the organization’s Spring 2016 Event. To Write Love On Her Arms Event: Jamie Tworkowski, founder of To Write Love On Her Arms, a nonprofit that provides hope and resources for people struggling with depression, addiction, self-injury, and thoughts of suicide, is speaking at University of Colorado Boulder on Thursday. Since TWLOHA formed in 2006, the organization has raised and donated more than $1.5 million to the treatment and recovery of those struggling with mental health issues. Tworkowski will be speaking about the organization and his journey, and will host a Q&A session. Steven McMorran from the rock band Satellite will also perform. Cooks for Books (Part II): Join former Colorado judge and Cambodian food expert Juanita Rice as she teaches a hands-on cooking course. Rice, who spent several years in rural Cambodia training lawyers, is using her knowledge of Cambodian food to benefit Children’s Future, a nonprofit dedicated to providing the country’s children with food and basic supplies.
