Art War, May 4

Pop culture aficionados, art lovers, foodies, and hardcore Star Wars fans will unite at a local art gallery for an intergalactic celebration. At this Comic Con–esque evening, fans new and old can deck themselves in themed costumes, throw back signature cocktails (choosing between the Dark Side or the Rebel Alliance, of course) and, best of all, acquaint themselves with local talent: Ten of up-and-coming Denver artists will present new works made specifically for the event. Wed 6-10:15 p.m. Point Gallery, 765 Santa Fe. Dr., 720-254-0467. $35-$100.

Trick Dog Takeover, May 5 to May 8

When the Williams & Graham staff is away, the Bon Vivants will come to play. For four days, cocktail connoisseurs can enjoy the whimsical creations of the team from Trick Dog Bar, a San Francisco favorite, as its members take over one of Denver’s best watering holes. We can’t tell you much about the “Top Secret” menu, except that it’s inspired by conspiracy theories and is handed to guests in the form of a classified file (although we have heard Trick Dog leaked some of the recipes on the bar’s website). Come for the James Beard Award–winning cocktails, and stay for the surprise highballs, shots, and boilermakers. Fri-Sun 5 p.m.-1 a.m. Williams & Graham, 3160 Tejon St., 303-997-8886. Free.

Barry Manilow, May 6

Barry Manilow recorded “Mandy,” his first Billboard No. 1 hit, 41 years ago—and it’s on the setlist for the 72-year-old’s final tour. Fanilows rest assured, the three-time American Music Award–winning, two-time Emmy Award–winning, Grammy Award–winning vocalist will perform all the classics, including “Copacabana” and “Weekend in New England.” He writes the songs that make the whole world sing, and Denverites in attendance will likely be no exception. Fri 7:30 p.m. Bellco Theatre, 700 14th St., 303-228-8000. Ticket prices vary.

RSC Shorts Fest, May 6 to May 7

A film festival doesn’t have to be an all-day affair; in fact, you can see seven films in less than the runtime of Star Wars: The Force Awakens at this rapidfire fest. These critically acclaimed shorts are in tall order: Opening night features flicks such as Bendito Machine V, a crowd-funded movie about man versus machine, and Saturday highlights include Collective: Unconscious, a collaborative horror film (a still from it is pictured) set within semi-conscious experiences. Chase your binge-watching with beer from Great Divide Brewing Co.—but save some thirst for Saturday’s brunch spread of Bloody Marys and build-your-own breakfast burritos. Fri 7-11 p.m., Sat noon-11 p.m. Sie Film Center, 2510 E. Colfax Ave., 303-595-3456. Ticket prices vary.

Malas and Mimosas, May 7

This Mother’s Day, create special totems—between sips—that you and your mom can wear as a daily reminder of your bond. Learn how to make a mala, a 108-bead necklace that is traditionally used by Hindus and Buddhists during prayer and meditation. As you craft, enjoy bottomless mimosas and brunch foods. Sat 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Satchel’s on 6th, 1710 E. Sixth Ave., 303-399-2560. $55-$87.
