If you failed to score tickets to the boozy, chef-y extravaganza that is Food & Wine Magazine’s annual Aspen Classic, fret not. You can still experience a taste of the festivities right here in the Denver metro.

On June 15, Tracy Nielsen, owner of the California-based La Pitchoune Winery, is hosting a casual wine tasting in Littleton before she heads to Aspen. For Nielson, a Golden native, returning to Colorado is a homecoming celebration and a chance to reconnect directly with family and friends—and to showcase her wines.

Since La Pitchoune released its first vintage in 2012, it’s been quietly gaining ground in the wine world, thanks in part to the skills of master winemaker Andrew Berge. Robert Parker recently awarded the 2013 Sonoma Coast Chardonnay a 94-point score, and as a result, the Burgundian-style white is selling quickly. Attendees will get the chance to taste that Chardonnay as well as the 2015 vin gris rosé (an ideal summer wine), a couple distinct Pinot Noirs, and other limited-production California wines.

Don’t expect a stuffy atmosphere for this wine tasting, which will be held at Anglers All fly fishing store (the shop is owned by Nielsen’s brother-in-law, Chris Keeley). The unconventional location hints at the event’s informal and familial vibe. Plan to mingle with Nielsen herself, nosh on some charcuterie and cheese, and sip and swirl some vino (you’ll also have the chance to purchase the wines). And unlike the Aspen Food & Wine Classic, this experience is completely free. Just be sure to RSVP here in advance.

June 15, 6–8 p.m.
