Not all Coloradans delight in freestyling through more than a mile of frigid waves. Fortunately, those interested in lake leisure (as opposed to labor) have more than 2,000 bodies of water to choose from. And since most of them are nearly as chilly as Dillon Reservoir, they’re also ideal late-summer spots to cool off.

With these liquid beauties come breathtaking mountain panoramas, making Twin Lakes ideal for boating of all kinds. While you admire Mt. Elbert in the distance, a Twin Lakes Interlaken Boat Tours guide will delve into the glacial formation of the area’s lakes over the course of a two-hour trip ($20).
