Denver might be landlocked, but the zoo offers more than one way to consider marine animals this weekend. Grab a seafood bite from one of 10 food trucks, including ahi tuna burritos from Chuey Fu’s Latin-Asian Grub or sustainable eel rolls from Roll It Up Sushi Truck. Then Angela Haseltine Pozzi, the artist behindWashed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea, will answer questions about her conservation-focused exhibit featuring large-scale sculptures made from sea-salvaged refuse, which will debut at the zoo this weekend. Confluence: A Musical Journey, September 23

Honor the centennial anniversary of the National Park Service with an engaging film and musical performance inspired by nature. The documentary follows indie folk band the Infamous Flapjack Affair as its members travel through four national parks in the Colorado River basin (including our own Rocky Mountain National Park and Arches National Park near Moab) and interview individuals whose livelihoods depend on the mighty river. Escape from the current election season with a play that highlights the light-hearted absurdity in the lives of our former commanders-in-chief. During this lightning-round summary of American history, you’ll watch 44 two-minute vignettes that cover each of the former presidencies, from our nation’s idealistic founders to the men that navigated economic hardship after the Great Depression. After watching improvisational scenes as well as prepared monologues, the audience can cast a fictional ballot on which of the former leaders they’d like to see return to the White House this November instead of Trump or Clinton. Great American Beard and Moustache Championship, September 24

Whether you’re sporting your own impressive beard or you simply appreciate a snazzy pair of whiskers, this quirky competition is the perfect time to get your facial hair fix. This hairy showcase features gentlemen competing in more than 20 different categories, from best Dali moustache to most creative full beard. Even clean shaven attendees can participate by crafting their own clever beard-moustache combinations out of household materials. Proceeds benefit the Fisher House Foundation, which provides low-cost housing for veterans, and the Rocky Mountain Cancer Assistance. Instead of taking your pup on the same walk around your neighborhood, treat him to a pet-friendly scavenger hunt. With both two- and four-legged friends, head out on the Ken Caryl Trail and try to photograph yourself performing as many tasks on the list as you can, including forming a human pyramid or pretending to row a canoe, within the two-and-a-half-hour time limit.
