They say a picture is worth a thousand words. But professional photography costs a pretty penny, and for many families, a portrait session is out of the question.

Enter Help-Portrait. The nonprofit organization wants to ensure everyone has access to a professional portrait session for free one day of the year. Help-Portrait, founded in 2008 by celebrity photographers Jeremy Cowart and Kyle Chowning, encourages professionals in photography, as well as makeup artists and hair stylists, to give back to their communities by donating time, skills, and expertise to people who might otherwise not be able to afford these services.

This year’s International Help-Portrait day is Saturday, December 3. Denver’s event will take place at Grant Beacon Middle School (1751 S. Washington St.) from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Professional photographers will be available and on hand to take portraits—for free. If you’re a professional interested in donating your time, sign up here.
