Although Denver’s thriving coffee scene has been widely celebrated, the city is also home to a slew of fantastic tea-centric cafes. Whether tea is your warming beverage of choice or you’re just looking for a break from your standard latte, visit one of these local shops for a quick morning pick-me-up or a relaxing afternoon tea break.

The House of Commons

If you’re on the hunt for a traditional cuppa, this 14-year-old Highland establishment is your best bet. The owner hails from the United Kingdom, and she brings an authentic British tea-drinking experience to Denver. Savor your English breakfast tea with a tender, house-made scone slathered in Devonshire cream, or gather a group of friends for the elegant afternoon tea, complete with finger sandwiches and petits fours. Reservations are recommended for afternoon tea, which is served between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. 2401 15th St., 303-455-4832

Teatulia Tea Bar

The organic, ethically-sourced teas at this airy LoHi spot are an excellent rebuttal to Colorado’s fluctuating weather. When your sunny morning devolves into an afternoon thunderstorm, head to Teatulia for a soothing peppermint cup or a tea latte (we like the earl grey, lavender, and vanilla Purple Haze). Beat the heat with iced tea in refreshing flavors like raspberry leaf or opt for one of the bar’s eight signature tea sodas. We recommend the black tea iteration, which takes the unconventional combination of lime, pineapple, and cucumber to habit-forming heights. 2900 Zuni St., 303-573-0710

Rosebud Cafe

Since last summer, this Speer cafe has been serving up spicy house-made chai and fresh herbal tea blends in a bright, welcoming space. As the name suggests, the owner mixes up a few particularly tasty teas infused with rose petals. We recommend a refreshing cup of green tea with rose and lavender. 90 Pennsylvania St., 303-593-2119

Capital Tea

The tea menu at this South Broadway eatery is split into seven categories, from white teas to oolongs to herbal blends. Pair a cup of the top-shelf Darjeeling with a house-made strawberry scone for breakfast, or sip on an iced raspberry-lavender tea with the smoked salmon and cucumber sandwich for lunch. 1450 S. Broadway, 303-777-2255

Steep Tea & Coffee

Whether you’re settling in for a study session or grabbing a quick cup before a hectic workday, this bright little tea shop offers several cozy drink options. Warm up with a Red Rocks latte—a caffeine-free blend of red rooibos tea, steamed milk, and vanilla—or snag a canister of loose-leaf tea to take home with you. 4100 E. 8th Ave., 303-321-0445
