Since most of us only get about 80 vacation hours a year, the last thing anyone wants to do is waste them trying to locate an obscure trailhead or secret fishing spot. Hinterlands, a nine-month-old site and app for curated adventures, gets that. By connecting you to knowledgeable local guides—like, say, Aspen native Jared Hollinger, a second-generation fly-fisherman—the service ensures you spend your time exploring instead of arguing with your GPS. Just pick an activity, location, and/or date, and the site or app will produce a list of excursions that match your criteria. When it launched in August, Hinterlands focused on the area near Aspen but has since expanded to the wilderness around nine Colorado towns—among them Buena Vista and Ouray—with just-show-up-and-soak-it-in adventures ranging from climbing Telluride’s via ferrata to angling on the Roaring Fork River.
