As an editorial makeup artist, I’ve worked with 5280 on several fashion shoots over the last two years, including April’s 1980s-inspired Lucky Star. I’m a child of the ’80s, so it was exciting to create modern beauty looks to complement this resurgent style. I used vibrant, bold colors, which are very ’80s, but still totally on-trend; super-saturated color was shown on Spring 2017 runways like Victoria Beckham and Kenzo. But it can be tricky to get it right. Here’s my step-by-step guide on how to pull off this look:

Prep the face with a moisturizer and primer to hydrate the skin and smooth out the surface. Start by applying Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentre ($28, target.com) over the entire face. This lightly scented moisturizer feels amazing and gives skin a more youthful appearance. Follow with Smashbox Cosmetics Photo Finish Foundation Primer ($36, smashbox.com, sephora.com) to decrease the appearance of fine lines and improve skin texture.

Next, prep the eyes with an eyeshadow base to keep makeup from creasing. I like Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20, sephora.com and urbandecay.com).

Use a brow brush to sweep your brows up in flicking motion, and then fill them in with a color that matches your natural brow shade. On Jacqueline, I used Anastasia Brow Wiz in light brown ($21, anastasiabeverlyhills.com).

Use a shading brush (I like MAC Cosmetics 239 Shading Brush, $25, maccosmetics.com) to press Make Up For Ever Aqua Cream Eyeshadow in Coral ($23, makeupforever.com) into the eyelid, keeping it below the crease. Next, swipe the same shade underneath the eye to create a V-shape at the outer corner. To set the cream, use a MAC Cosmetics 217 Blending Brush ($25, maccosmetics.com) to sweep Nars powder eyeshadow in Persia ($26, nordstrom.com) over the lid, blending the shadow into and slightly above the eye crease. Finish with a thick coat of L’Oréal Voluminous Mascara in Black Carbon ($5.89, target.com) on top and bottom lashes.

Apply a small amount of foundation (about a nickel size) using a Beauty Blender Sponge. I love Koh Gen Do Maifanshi Moisture Foundation ($62, kohgendocosmetics.com) because it’s natural-looking, yet has good coverage and is also hydrating. Cover up any blemishes with Hourglass Hidden Corrective Concealer ($34, nordstrom.com, sephora.com, hourglasscosmetics.com), and apply a small amount under the eyes, as well.

Pat MAC Cosmetics Cremeblend Blush in LadyBlush ($23, nordstrom.com) onto the apples of the cheek and blend with your finger along the cheekbone.

Use a Makeup Forever 300 Lip Brush ($21, makeupforever.com) to mix and apply Lime Crime Velvetine Matte Lipstick in Pink Velvet and Faded ($20, limecrime.com) to the center of the lips and blend it out to the corners. Then take MAC Cosmetics Lip Pencil in Magenta ($17.50, nordstrom.com) and draw around the edges of the lip to clean up the lines.
