On May 15—after 5280 Home’s June/July issue went to press but before our cover story on The Bachelor’s Ben Higgins and Lauren Bushnell’s home was published online and appeared on newsstands—Higgins and Bushnell broke the news that they were calling it quits via a statement to People: “It is with heavy hearts that we announce our decision to go our separate ways. We feel fortunate for the time we had together, and will remain friends with much love and respect for one another.”

Bushnell has since left the Mile High City to pursue a career in modeling and fashion in Southern California, reportedly taking many of the furnishings she helped select for the former couple’s Berkeley bungalow. On Ben and Ashley: Almost Famous, a new podcast for iHeartRadio that debuted on May 23, Higgins told his co-host and fellow Bachelor franchise alum Ashley Iaconetti, “My house and I are feeling very similar: sad, mourning, a little empty. And so I feel like this is a bonding time for my house and I. In all seriousness, it’s really sad.”

We caught up with the 29-year-old to find out out how he, and his home, are faring after the split.

5280 HomeLast we talked, you and Lauren were planning summer dinner parties in your newly made-over backyard. What happened? And more importantly—what happened to all that furniture?
Higgins: Lauren and I split the furniture. She took what she could to LA and then left things for me so I could still be comfortable in my home. A lot of the outdoor furniture stayed, which was great for me.

5280 HomeWe hear you got to keep the bar cart; any chance of the deer antlers making a reappearance?
Higgins: The antlers are back! This is big news for me; they are back above the bookshelf as I write this.

5280 HomeWhat are your plans for refurnishing?
Higgins: I have some of my former furniture, but I am also going to be going shopping for new things to get a fresh start.

5280 HomeAnything else you want to add about your new single life in Denver?
Higgins: Single life is new to me and something I am very hesitant about. My goal is to spend a ton of time with friends (most of which are married) and just try to enjoy life with very little restrictions or responsibilities. It will all be very new for me.
