MARKETING AND
PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR

5280 Publishing, Inc. is a successful Denver-based media company that produces 5280 Magazine, the largest local magazine in Colorado. Now celebrating its 15th anniversary, 5280's commitment to high-quality journalism has made it one of the country's most respected regional publications. Since 2005, 5280 has been a finalist for three National Magazine Awards, the industry's highest honor.

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a member of our senior management team, the Marketing and Public Relations Director will:

  • Be responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive marketing and public relations program designed to maintain and grow the 5280 brand through media relations, sponsor partnership, non-traditional revenue opportunities, and events.
  • Create effective public relations campaigns to increase awareness and sales of 5280 products. Responsible for execution of all media promotions for each monthly issue and every 5280 signature event. Must be able to measure, analyze, and track media coverage as appropriate.
  • Forge and maintain relationships with key media and industry contacts to promote the 5280 brand. Must be able to secure interviews for editorial staff and/or related spokesperson and drive media attention for maximum brand impact.
  • Maintain and manage current sponsorships and conceptualizes new sponsorship opportunities. Must be able to think strategically and proactively to fully leverage sponsorship opportunities by incorporating all aspects of the 5280 brand offerings to achieve maximum results.
  • Manage Special Events & Projects Manager who executes and plans 5280 events, creates sponsorship packages and special advertising sections.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5-7 years of public relations/marketing experience, preferably in media. Proven media relations record with established relationships preferred. Must have proven experience managing multiple projects and budgets with diverse internal and external resources. The ideal candidate will have a balance of strategic and creative ability, experience in brand positioning, sales presentations, an understanding of event coordination, value-added and merchandising programs, and exceptional writing and communication skills. This person must have high integrity, strong leadership skills, and be a natural problem-solver. Computer skills are a must.

BUSINESS AND OPERATIONS MANAGER

JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a member of our senior management team, the Business and Operations Manager will execute all accounting functions including A/R, A/P, collections, payroll, balancing books, account and bank reconciliation, taxes and financial reporting. Position will also participate in the company's short- and long-range strategic planning, in addition to overseeing purchasing, human resources, and work closely with company's CPA firm. Reports directly to CEO.

QUALIFICATIONS:
You must have general accounting experience, including financial statements, and a solid knowledge of QuickBooks or comparable software. CANDIDATES WITHOUT A STRONG ACCOUNTING BACKGROUND WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED! Human resource skills also required.

Minimum five years of relevant, real-world experience. Strong accounting and financial skills. Familiarity with QuickBooks preferred. Highly organized, detail-oriented, hands-on manager, who can bring out the best in employees. Must thrive in a deadline-driven, creative work environment and embrace progressive, non-traditional approaches to business.

Editorial Internship Program

5280 offers an editorial internship program in the spring, summer, and fall (full-time during the summer). A monthly stipend or class credit is available.

Primary intern responsibilities include fact-checking stories, writing shorter stories for the front-of-the-book and dining sections, contributing research to larger stories and features, and entering descriptions for the calendar and dining listings sections. This is a hands-on internship with lots of staff interaction.

Although a journalism or English degree (or working towards a degree) is preferred, it's not required. Published material or writing samples are required (college newspaper is okay).

Deadlines for applications: Summer (March 15); Fall (July 15); Spring (November 15).
