new-kidSchool kids can be mean–calling names, picking fights–and they can be especially cruel to the new kid. Nick knows this well. He has recently moved from the fictional country of Homeland to the United States. He speaks no English, and he carries a lunch box that the other kids make fun of.

Life, for Nick, is confusing and weird–and the Denver Center Theatre Academy’s family-oriented play, New Kid, acutely brings Nick’s frustrations to life. Just as he can’t understand his schoolmates, neither can the audience: Nick is the only character in New Kid who actually speaks English; everyone else talks gibberish.
