The Big Gift:
For the businessman in need of a versatile outerwear option that can easily take him from his corner office to his Vail lodge, try an update on the classic tailored coat. The key to this piece is length: It needs to be long enough to cover a suit jacket but short enough to still look sporty when paired with casual clothing. The 3-in-1 overcoat version by Sanyo (not the electronics giant, but a Japanese clothing manufacturer dating back to the mid-1940s) is designed in lightweight angora and wool and converts from a zip-out vest warmer to the shell or the vest alone (pictured). $795, Nordstrom, Cherry Creek Mall, 2810 E. First Ave., 720-746-2424; Park Meadows Mall, 8465 Park Meadows Center Dr., Lone Tree, 303-799-3400; FlatIron Crossing, 21 W. Flatiron Crossing Dr., Broomfield, 720-887-0333; or shop.nordstrom.com.

There is no better way to indulge the cold-weather enthusiast’s passion for action than with a gift from Patagonia. The outdoor clothing and gear specialist has just introduced its latest addition, the Down Sweater, a multifunctional piece that can be worn as either outerwear or a midlayer. This ultra-lightweight, 800-fill power, European goose down jacket is made from 100 percent recycled polyester and has a tear-resistant and windproof shell. $200, Patagonia, 1431 15th St., 303-446-9500, patagonia.com.

Manccessories:
The family perfume house Krigler may fly under the radar, but the brand has been persevering since 1904, when it was established in St. Petersburg, Russia. Although the family fled to Berlin at the start of the Russian Revolution, they eventually settled around the French Riviera near Grasse, the perfume capital of the world. Having handcrafted several signature fragrances in the ’20s and ’30s—named after some of the most glamorous destinations around the globe—in 1931 Krigler created its first scent in the United States, American One 31 (pictured). Mysterious yet sensual, American One 31 has hints of cedar and dry notes of black pepper, cumin, and bergamot with voluptuous scents of neroli and vetiver. Fans of the formula have included such luminaries as John F. Kennedy and Ernest Hemingway. $145 for 50 ml or $225 for 100ml, krigler.com.

Styles are continuously recycled from previous decades but with enough of an update to keep the look just current. Right now, men’s accessories definitely have a vintage flair, whether from the ’50s, ’60s, or ’70s. If your man favors a retro look, gift him a watch from the Timex Original series. These timepieces celebrate milestones in Timex’s 150-plus year history by taking dial inspiration and design details from various decades. Our favorite is a reissue of a ’70s analog design with updated materials including Indiglo® Night-Light (for easy dial reading), as well as a stainless steel case and expansion band. $110-$125, Nordstrom, Cherry Creek Mall, 2810 E. First Ave., 720-746-2424, shop.nordstrom.com.

Even that trademark geek accessory—the bow tie—has made a resurgence over the past few seasons (thanks, Mondo Guerra!). If your man has a rakish sense of style and can pull off this look, now is the perfect time to help him build up a collection of whimsical neckwear. For a large selection of bow ties—wool or silk, patterned or solid—we recommend the assortment from the Saks Fifth Avenue Men’s Collection. $75 to $95, Saks Fifth Avenue, Cherry Creek Mall, 2900 E. First Ave., 303-393-6333, saksfifthavenue.com.

Crack all the jokes you want about the “murse” or the “manbag.” The fact is men need a way to easily stash their stuff, too. Women should simply remember that a guy’s bag needs to be masculine and functional–not just one or the other. Moore & Giles began as a leather-focused interior-design firm in the 1930s, but the company’s sleek, streamlined bags are what caught our attention recently. And with fine details like those featured in their Wynn-Mail Bag—with a removable shoulder strap, cell phone holder, business card pocket, flight ticket pocket, and key clip and pen sleeve—these bags are as thoughtfully crafted as they are good looking. $660, Andrisen Morton, 270 St. Paul St., 303-377-8488, andrisenmorton.com.
