Nuggets fans have a fun chance to rub elbows with one of the team’s brightest lights this Friday at Jake’s Food & Spirits. Beginning at 7 p.m., JaVale McGee, his mother,Pamela, and other family members will host a party celebrating the relaunch of his website, JaValeMcGee.com. Co-hosted by the marketing firm Five Hype, the free event will serve food and drinks (paid for by the McGees) and will feature giveaways of Nuggets tickets, jerseys, shoes, and even a little art. [Note: Capacity at Jake’s is only about 200, so best arrive early and/or RSVP to mike@fivehype.com.]

McGee’s website already showcases the athletic talents and off-court antics (including various charitable endeavors) of one of the NBA’s most entertaining goofballs. The new-and-improved site will add even more content, especially now that McGee will finally be playing big-time minutes this coming season. Included in our preview of the Nuggets’ 2013-14 campaign—on newsstands in late-September—is discussion of how new coach Brian Shaw plans to increase the 7-footer’s workload, to the long-awaited delight of fans. So head up to RiNo for a rare up-close look at one of the league’s most riveting big men.

Details: Friday, September 20 at 7 p.m., Jakes Food & Spirits, 3800 Walnut St. Free admission. RSVP to mike@fivehype.com.
