After beer imbibing and discovering new breweries, eavesdropping on conversations is my third favorite activity at the Great American Beer Festival. Here’s what we heard—taken entirely out of context—during Thursday’s opening night session:

“I gotta understand this sign.”

“Sorry. I’m having trouble walking right now.”

“This gose smells weird.”

“We have five breweries in North Dakota.”

“Somebody spilled a beer on me.”

“It tastes like pine tree.”

“I got mine on mail order.”

“The [expletive] fun police around here…”

And, the understatement of the night: “I need a beer.”
