Next time you walk down 16th Street Mall, peek in the window at 1515 Arapahoe: NINE dot ARTS and JLL Denver have transformed the office lobby into an artist-in-residence studio dubbed Studio 1515. Local artist Adam Buehler, a graduate student at the University of Colorado Denver’s College of Architecture and Planning, will transform a reclaimed wood panel into a “site-specific painting” that will hang in the second-floor lobby of the building. Buehler will be working on his painting in Studio 1515 every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 4 to 6 p.m. through the first week of December.

The Studio1515 project aims to create an engaging environment where building tenants and the public are direct participants in the creation of the artwork. Buehler—who is accustomed to painting alone in his personal studio on Santa Fe—has been challenged by the open-door aspect of the project; he’s has to balance his attention on communicating with the painting and engaging with the people that watch him work.

“Already, my process and the painting are being changed by the public environment of the site and ultimately, the piece will be a reflection of this experience,” Buehler says.
