Broadway certainly doesn’t suffer from a shortage of restaurants or watering holes. But that didn’t stop veteran chef Dylan Moore, the former owner of now-shuttered spots Deluxe and Delite, from finding a niche to fill along the busy roadway.

Just over a month ago, Moore opened Moxie Eatery in the Baker neighborhood. The comfortable spot specializes in fast fare for breakfast, lunch, and early dinner. While creating the eclectic menu, Moore took inspiration from the dishes he ate while traveling in Southeast Asia and South America for the past three years. “We’re making fresh, clean street food. It’s a matter of having fun with food and looking at it in a different way,” he says.

In addition to internationally inspired options such as the Thai chicken salad or chicken noodle bowl, Moxie serves plenty of sandwiches and salads as well. Several of the selections are vegetarian or gluten-free, and are clearly marked as such on the menu.

For lunch, we recommend either the hearty acorn squash sammie (roasted squash, black beans, pickled onions, and cashew chipotle aïoli on a soft ciabatta roll) or the falafel waffle bowl where a mix of chickpeas and spices are cooked inside a waffle iron and then served with chopped baby cucumber and tomato, feta, cumin yogurt, and mint chutney.

You can also drop by Moxie on your way to work in the morning to snag a breakfast sandwich on a British muffin. Whether you’re in the mood for a decadent bite filled with bacon, egg, Gorgonzola, and arugula drizzled with sherry vinaigrette, or a simple number stuffed with almond butter and house-made jam, Moxie is sure to have something to suit your craving.
