Everyone’s embracing the mantra of the moment: Fill your home only with things you love. But making such a personal collection look less like a yard sale and more like this curated living room is easier said than done. Interior designer Ashleigh Weatherill, who created this space as part of a bigger redesign in Observatory Park, says the trick is to “repeat elements so they feel like they’re related.” Here, she created continuity by layering midcentury modern furnishings (in similar wood tones) with pops of turquoise and plenty of lush plants—all expressions of the owners’ tastes. To make the space kid-friendly (also on the wish list), Weatherill designated shelving for toy storage and chose an area rug made of replaceable tiles. What’s not to love about that?

Design Tip: “I tend to stick to a neutral foundation and bring in pops of color that are easy to switch out. In this room you could easily take out the turquoise accents and throw in another color.”
