Downtown workers have a new, inexpensive lunch option: Stack Subs. The family-owned sandwich shop first launched in Lakewood in 2012, and its second store—located on the ground floor of the Guaranty Bank and Trust building at the corner of 17th and Market streets—opens today.

“We’ve always had our sights set on getting a store opened downtown,” says Rick Koerner, a Denver native who co-owns the restaurant with his wife, Ann.

Stack Subs is known for layering its sandwiches just right (hence the name), so diners don’t get one bite full of meat and another that’s just lettuce. “We want to ensure consistency from end to end, so the last bite has the same flavor profile as the first bite and the middle of the sandwich,” Koerner says.

While the original Lakewood location is no longer open, the Koerners have another shop in Lakewood’s Belmar. The downtown store features the same menu of sandwiches and salads—which top out at $7—though the milkshakes won’t be available right away. But the new location does have something special: a breakfast menu. The new lineup will include coffee and espresso drinks and around six breakfast sandwiches (all around $4), including a vegetarian option with house-made spicy cream cheese, pesto, egg, spinach, and tomato. Busy workers will be excited to know that they can order online and just pop in to pick up.

Stack Subs is open weekdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 8  p.m.; hours are subject to change.
