I already rave about Red Trolley’s artisan ice cream, gelato, and killer cereal bar, but today the Highland spot adds another notch to its belt: a gourmet hot-dog bar.
In addition to a dozen toppings and 12 mustards, the Trolley offers a side du jour, like crunchy broccoli slaw, refreshing watermelon-feta salad, and others.
In keeping with owners Patrick and Julie Shaw’s all-natural philosophy, the franks are nitrate-free (and made locally at Continental Sausage), and the meal ($4–$6) comes paired with an organic Oogavé soda.
Bonus: Hot-dog lovers should check out Bon Appétit’s “Around the World in 80 Dogs” feature in the July issue for globally inspired dog recipes (think garlic mojo, preserved lemon relish, and cider-braised leeks).
