CU’s Surprise

Heading into this weekend, it was more likely the White House and Fox News would co-host a summit on togetherness than the University of Colorado Buffaloes would knock off number 17 Kansas in a football game. Well, reserve the banquet hall, because the Buffs did just that, downing the Jayhawks 34-30 in front of more than 51,000 people at Folsom Field.

The Buffs were led by quarterback Tyler Hansen, who started his first game after poor play from starting quarterback Cody Hawkins for the second year in a row. Hansen threw for 175 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, leading the Buffs to 24 unanswered points in the second quarter (via The Denver Post).

Kansas head coach Mark Mangino tells The Associated Press CU has probably found its quarterback for the next few years. The team is confident when Hansen is under center, writes Boulder’s Daily Camera, which quotes Buffs cornerback Cha’pelle Brown as saying the team still has illusions of winning the Big 12 and that with Hansen they’re closer than ever.
