Pairing Enstrom’s Toffee With Wine

Since moving to Colorado 23 years ago, I can’t remember a Christmas in which Enstrom’s almond toffee didn’t make an appearance. The crunchy, super fresh, chocolate-covered candy is simply part of the holiday tradition.

If you’re an Enstrom’s junkie and want to make the after-dinner treat a bit more festive, pair chunks of the dark-chocolate variety with a glass of Ficklin Vineyards’ Aged 10 Year Tawny Port. The complexity of the smooth, wood-aged port holds up well against the equally complex sweetness, but doesn’t overwhelm it.

For an all-Colorado after-dinner pairing, try the Talon Winery Wingspan White (from Palisade) with Enstrom’s milk-chocolate toffee (from Grand Junction). The crisp blend of Chardonnay and Viognier nicely offsets the sweet, buttery dessert.

Fast Fact: Enstrom’s expects to sell about 200,000 pounds of candy in Colorado this year.
