James Dobson Disses Republican Candidates

Focus on the Family’s James Dobson is in a quandry: Who can he vote for?

So far, it’s not going to be Fred Thompson. The Associated Press got hold of this e-mail he wrote someone:

“Isn’t Thompson the candidate who is opposed to a Constitutional amendment to protect marriage, believes there should be 50 different definitions of marriage in the U.S., favors McCain-Feingold, won’t talk at all about what he believes, and can’t speak his way out of a paper bag on the campaign trail?”

“He has no passion, no zeal, and no apparent ‘want to.’ And yet he is apparently the Great Hope that burns in the breasts of many conservative Christians? Well, not for me, my brothers. Not for me!”

He’s not voting for Rudy Giuiliani:

Dobson called Giuliani an “unapologetic supporter of abortion on demand” and criticized him for signing a bill in 1997 creating domestic-partnership benefits in New York City.

Nor John McCain:

Earlier this year, Dobson said he wouldn’t back John McCain because of the Arizona senator’s opposition to a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage.

I guess that leaves Mormon Mitt Romney. Or Hillary.

  1. Brian says:

What’s more sad is that Dobson’s opinion even matters, albeit to a select group of voters too brainwashed by his dogma to form their own intelligent opinions.

  2. Kevin Jones says:

Business interests and hawks aren’t underrepresented among the leading candidates. They really run the party. They’ll still need to come up with some token issues to bluff the theocons into voting for them, especially if a questionably pro-life candidate secures the nomination.

  3. James says:

No the sad thing is that there really is nor candidate for evangelical Christians to vote for. I’m looking for a candidate who’s Pro-life, pro-education, wants children to have basic health care, who cares about and knows what Darfur is, wants to improve the environment, and is all for getting rid of government waste and corruption. It would also be nice if he wanted to encourage people to get married and promote the family (mom, dad, and kids).

  4. Bill says:

Hello! Don’t you folks know about Ron Paul??

  5. Mark says:

There are some candidates out there that do have basic Christian beliefs. Unfortunately they aren’t front runners. Click my name to take you to a link that will allow you to choose a candidate based on your beliefs. Just for the record, it’s not brainwashing if a major organization shares your beliefs.

  6. Dale says:

Not Ron Paul. Dobson needs the Iraq war to demonize non-Christians.

  7. kjk says:

I would really appreciate it if James Dobson and Pat Robertson would just get out of the political process.
