Republican presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani has chosen sides in the World Series. The ardent Yankee fan is rooting for the Red Sox.
“In Colorado, in the next week or two, you will see, I will have the courage to tell the people of Colorado the same thing, that I am rooting for the Red Sox in the World Series,” he said.
Is it courage or a political ploy? The New York Post calls him a flip-flopper. You do the math:
Colorado has a total of nine Electoral College votes, compared with about 30 in Red Sox Nation – Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island and about half of Connecticut.
The biggie is New Hamphire which is totally a Red Sox state. Their primary means more to Rudy’s than our’s. As the Post editors wrote in an editorial this morning:
Ironic, isn’t it, that just this weekend Rudy noted the big difference between himself and Hillary Clinton: “We’re both Yankee fans. I’m a Yankee fan growing up in New York. She was a Yankee fan growing up in Chicago.”
Now, overnight, he’s become “a Red Sox fan growing up in New York” – no doubt to revert to the status quo the instant the polls close in the upcoming New Hampshire presidential primary.
