Transylvanian Polka?

Gypsy punk? Klezmer rock? Transylvanian pop? Latin polka? It's a huge challenge to accurately describe the music of DeVotchKa, one of Denver and Boulder's musical treasures. The band has won numerous awards, from the prestigious "Best Unsigned Band" from CMJ magazine, to "Best Avant-Garde Band" from the 2004 Westword Music Awards. They absolutely have to been seen live for proper appreciation, and tonight they'll be at the Larimer Lounge with another buzz-worthy local band, Matson Jones. If you miss them tonight, you'll have another chance next week; DeVotchKa plays at the Mercury Cafe on New Year's Eve.
