Aspen Down to Its Last Prosecutor

Aspen seems to be having trouble keeping prosecutors these days. The Aspen Daily News reports that with the sudden forced departure of Deputy DA Gail Nichols, the only remaining Aspen prosecutor is county court DA Brian Rossiter. Nichols tendered her resignation a few weeks ago, effective April 30. But Wednesday, DA Colleen Trudeen showed up with some muscle at the office and demanded Nichols leave on the spot. Trudeen serves for the entire 9th Judicial District, which includes Pitkin, Garfield, and Rio Blanco Counties. Whenever an office loses so much of its staff in a short time period, it's a good idea to stop and take a breath and look at Upper Management for the source of the trouble.
