Denver Law Firm Jumps Into Gitmo

Holland and Hart is representing one of the detainees held at Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba. Holland and Hart will be representing an Algerian national named Motai Saib who has been held at the base for the past three years. He has not been charged with a crime.....Holland and Hart has since assembled a team of lawyers to represent Saib, and four other Algerians being held there. Friday, the firm will file a petition for writ of habeas corpus in U.S. district court in Washington D.C. It asks for a legal case to be made against Saib, or for him to be freed. Tom Tancredo says they are all "bad guys." Read some of their stories here and decide for yourselves.

Bad Guys or Heroes? Blogger and consultant Gerry Riskin claims the former, comparing the leaders of Holland & Hart to President John Adams. Read his post here: http://www.gerryriskin.com/up-close-and-personal-101-holland-hart-lawyers-are-heroes.html Here's how he begins his post: Holland & Hart lawyers meet the dictionary definition of heroes: "A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed…" They are in good company. Allow me to excerpt my earlier post on another legal hero, second US President John Adams: "Mr. Adams added honor to the profession by taking on the most extremely unpopular trial of his time - defending British soldiers in the Boston Massacre in the Fall of 1770." I do not think I need to tell you that President Adams would do precisely what Holland & Hart is doing and would say so in no uncertain terms. I hope this President Adams story will encourage Holland & Hart as it faces those who would criticize their initiative.
