Rutt Bridges, one of two Democrats running for governor, announced his second quarter fundraising results today. The official filing deadline isn't until Friday, and Bridges is the first of the four candidates running to file. The Bridges campaign reported $131,000 raised in the second quarter, which for Bridges takes into account only about a month's worth of donations (he didn't formally file his campaign paperwork until late May). Here's what Bridges and his campaign manager, Jim Merlino, had to say in a press release:

"We've earned a broad base of support traveling across Colorado the last few weeks," stated Bridges. "People are responding to my experience creating jobs and building coalitions to find common-sense solutions for all of Colorado." "The report reflects less than one month of fundraising activity. We have quickly established sufficient fundraising capacity to communicate Rutt's message of common-sense solutions to the people of Colorado," said Campaign Director Jim Merlino.

Bridges' $131,000 is a respectable, if unspectacular, financial report. There have been rumors that Republican candidates Marc Holtzman and Bob Beauprez will both report that they have raised more than $300,000 in the second quarter, though each would have had an entire three months to raise money. More important for Bridges, who is wealthy enough to spend his own money on the campaign, will be to see what Democrat Bill Ritter has raised. Ritter is the only candidate among the four who is not independently wealthy, and he will have to raise a lot of money every step of the way to stay competitive with the other three.
