Denver Singles: Stop Whining!

July 26 2005, 11:54 AM

Quit yer bitchin', you spoiled singletons. That's the message we're getting from Forbes Magazine, where Denver-Boulder just won the title of Best City for Singles for the second year in a row. Denver-Boulder edged out Boston and San Franciso (#2 and #3, respectively) based on our good job growth, relatively low cost of living, abundant cultural and outdoor activities, and a high population of young people. Of course, New York steals the show when it comes to nightlife, and Austin gets the top marks for "coolness." And though the Mile-High City didn't actually take first place for any of the six categories used to judge the 40 largest cities in the U.S., we get consistently high marks across the board. But apparently we're not satisfied. Forbes sent Leah Hoffman to report on our supposedly incredible singles scene, and found nothing but cranky singles who were largely unimpressed with our #1 status. How did she determine this, though? She went to Croc's downtown, which is the kind of place where people gather for happy hour to vent after a long day. And she tried speed dating. I'd be cranky too if my dates only lasted for three minutes before the guy moved on to another woman. Then again, dating can suck. Even if you are lucky enough to be doing it in D-town.
