Colorado Senator Ken Salazar may become a thorn in the Republicans' side. He is not yielding in his demand for an independent commission to investigate the response failures to Hurricane Katrina, and he wants people to keep up the pressure. At a Sunday meeting at his Denver office, Salazar told those present:

....the formula of the 9/11 commission is the best approach for answers adding that it should not be a political issue. With a potential cost of $250–Billion dollars to rebuild the gulf coast, Salazar is also asking the President to avoid the possibility for corruption by supporting an idea for a Chief Financial Officer to oversee the dispursment of the funds.

Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan and former Secretary of State Colin Powell are two people who come to mind that fit the bill.
