Two Local Hip-Hop Artists Gunned Down
Where is this violence coming from? Last month, it was singer Marc Cohn who was shot during a carjacking in downtown Denver. Sunday night, two highly regarded hip-hop artists were shot.
Michael Hope, 24, and Qutice McGaughy, 27, were sitting in a black Dodge Neon on 10th and Grant when they were shot. It happened shortly after 2 a.m. A third person in the car was not injured, but police said he refused to cooperate with the investigation. The victims are also known as 'Innerstate Ike' and 'Cac'. The rappers grew up in Montbello and wanted to give young people hope for a better life. Ike and Cac handed out their CD's for free at local recreation centers. Both of the victims have children. Their family and friends said they are at a loss for why someone would want to hurt the rising stars.

I worked with Q at wal-mart and my knowing him was a true blessing he would always make us laugh and with that smile of his he would always brighten our days. A day doesn't go by that I don't think of him he truely was a great guy to know. My thoughts and prayers to his family.

I was there. I held Mike's hand until the paramedics got there. The only words he could sputter was "My name is Mike Hope". I hope he is getting better. I have never felt a connection to someone I never met before. I just knew he needed help. I send condolances to the families of both of them. Cac is in a better place. I hope God blesses thier families with the strength to deal with such a horrific tradgedy. If Mike ever reads this tell him the band ASKIMBO would love to work with him.

A friend of mine just recently heard from Ike. He called her out of the blue one day.. He, said that hes been up in colorado springs because they have a physical therapy facility there helping him learn how to walk and use his muscles because he was shot in the neck which affected his spine. So, that was good news hearing from him because it seems like no one was really hearing from him at all and had no info.. Last, I heard he was paralyzed from the neck down and was slipping in and out of comas, but I really try to push rumors out of my head becuase I would never want to picture Ike like that. So, i'm glad that that is not true. I hope I hear more from him. Still praying for you Ike. R.I.P Cac

My boyfriend and I were the first of 3 people to arive on the sceene of the crime. I never got a chance to see mike in the hospital. I haven't been able to find much about the shootings. I honestly have no idea whats been going on with thier families or if Mike survived. I just wanted to let thier families know that on that night, I became extremly close with two souls that I had never met before. I WAS there, I tried to comunicate and help them...they told us about thier families. They were proud. As well as thier families should be too. They were both so stong. And you know what, it's made me stronger as well. I didn't expect to come across that at 2am after work. It helped me to relize that life is sweet while you have it. My mind and hearts have been with them and thier families sense. I hope the answers you need will come with time.

Is there any information on whether anyone has been prosecuted for the shootings of Mr. Hope and Mr. McGaughy?
It was our first night back in our former hometown of Denver, celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary when we were awakened by shots 15 floors below. We got to the window too late to see anything, but have heard that a 3rd person in the vehicle who was unhurt has refused to cooperate with police.
What a tragedy for the families and for the communities these two men served. Our thoughts are with the McGaughy family and we send our best wishes for the recovery of Mr. Hope.
