Rosa Parks: Already Forgotten?
From News4:
Air Force coach Fisher DeBerry, expressing frustration Tuesday with the Falcons' slumping performance, attributed the latest loss in part to No. 20 TCU's having more black players who "can run very, very well." ... "It just seems to be that way, that Afro-American kids can run very, very well. That doesn't mean that Caucasian kids and other descents can't run, but it's very obvious to me they run extremely well," DeBerry said in remarks first broadcast Tuesday night by a TV station in Denver. How in the name of God do you even respond to something like this? Back in 1955, this sort of talk would have been deplorable. In 2005, it's simply unimaginable. This is yet another black eye for the Air Force Academy. DeBarry should be fired at once.

This type of ideology sadly comes with the territory when it comes to collegiate and professional sports. You see about 80-85% of the Division 1 and II teams are majority “Afro-American in Coach DeBerry’s words, and the majority of the coaching staffs are Caucasian, so this makes for an interesting mix during “all white coaches staff meetings. See the following statistics:
 Number of black men in athletics director positions in all divisions, 836 programs [historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) excluded]: 29.
 Number of black Division I head football coaches today (HBCUs excluded): 3.
 Percentage of new coaching jobs among women's teams filled by males since 1998: 80.
It also does not help that the support staff on the Division I level is not representative of the athletes that play the sports. How can academic advisors ever begin to empathize with “Afro-American athletes that are from inner cities or rural areas that man these athletic programs around the country. The sad fact of the matter is that he only perceives these athletes (Afro-American) as people that can only run fast or jump high, and that my friends is a travesty onto itself.
