Here it comes. It's December 1, so naturally the holiday events have kicked into full gear. In one night, my calendar has become a bit of balancing act, something that many of us will be dealing with for the next several weeks.
Tonight for instance, I have three invitations to choose from. One I received weeks ago, and RSVP'd yes, so I'm obligated to attend. Of course, it's certainly no chore to head to Polkadot
for the boutique's opening night and holiday gathering. And as any party-hopper knows, this will be a quick visit where it is totally appropriate to pop in, have one cocktail, look around (and hopefully find at least one perfect item for my Christmas list), and pop right back out within an hour.
But then you have the late-coming invitations. I'm not entirely sure if I got B-listed here, but I suspect that's the case. A friend of mine who also happens to be my account rep for a web development company I work with (Creation Chamber
, fyi, they're great), invited me to the company holiday party at one of the club lounges inside Invesco Field. Tonight. Sounds great, right? It is, except I got the invite yesterday afternoon
. Hmm. I'm feeling that B-list vibe, eh? But a party's a party -- and this one includes live music, cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and tours of the stadium, so I'd like to make it.
Then again, I just got an invite -- today
-- to go see David Sedaris' Santaland Diaries
at the Bug Theatre for free. One of my friends is in the production and extended a special invitation tonight. Which rocks. Except that I have other plans already. Which doesn't exactly rock. Of course, the Santaland Diaries runs through December 26
, and I highly recommend it -- Gary Culig will return to play the lead and he is excellent. I can always come up with the $20 for a ticket on my own. But free's free, and December can be a tough month for us freelancer types.
So here I sit at 3 p.m. with a very flimsy idea of what I'll actually end up doing tonight. I guess I can't hit everything, but I'll shoot for two out of three. Then we'll see what December 2 has in store.
I do love the holidays.
