Sen. Ken Salazar is only in the first year of his Senate term. But he's asking for donations to help him fight attacks by right-wing groups like Focus on the Family which has attacked him for his statements about the nomination of Judge Sam Alito. He sent out this letter yesterday. He ends it with this request for funds.

As one Senator, I can, and do, fight every day for the values we share. But that makes me a target, even though I am not up for re-election, of the most radical right wing of American politics. Therefore, as I enter the 2nd year of my term in the Senate, I must ask you for some financial help that will allow me to respond to those attacks and communicate with you and other supporters regularly about my work in Washington on behalf of all of Colorado.
