D.U.I. Crackdown This Weekend

The Colorado State Patrol has announced that there will be a D.U.I. crackdown this weekend. It begins at 6 p.m. Friday and lasts until 3 a.m. Monday. During that time, officers will "saturate" certain areas with D.U.I. cops. More information on "Office Party Weekend" is available at their webpage, designated as The Heat is On. You can view the arrest statistics daily here. Aside from putting a serious damper on your holiday mood, D.U.I.'s are phenomenally expensive. Between lawyer's fees, alchohol classes and probation fees and increased car insurance rates, one can easily run more than $10,000 (pdf). And that's assuming no accident is involved. It also leaves you with a permanent record. That said, if you have any questions, check out the D.U.I. blog (sub-captioned Bad Drunk Driving Laws, False Evidence and a Fading Constitution ) written by DUI lawyer Lawrence Taylor, who also authors the text book Drunk Driving Defense. The archives by title are here.
