Bill Denying Workers' Comp to Undocumented Workers Defeated

Colorado State Sen. Greg Brophy (R) is on the immigration warpath. He introduced a bill that would deny workers compensation to undocumented workers. Senate Democrats on the Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee, on a 4-3 vote, killed the bill. (No link, received by e-mail.) Under the bill, an "employee" would be defined as those other than aliens not authorized to work in the U.S. As Democrat Lois Trochop pointed out:
Senator Brophy's bill would exclude workers compensation for undocumented immigrants only inviting businesses to hire undocumented workers. Not paying for workers insurance allows businesses to pay less. Potentially this could close the employment door on any legally documented Coloradan.
