Varial heelflips. Backside smith grinds. Heelclickers. No, these aren't the latest trends in plastic surgery. But pros in the field of action sports--skateboarding, BMX and freestyle motocross--are performing these moves with precision at the Dew Action Sports Tour—Right Guard Open. Long the bane of strip mall security guards, these shredders were raised on grinding park benches, sliding handrails and jumping curbs. Well, action sports have grown in popularity--who hasn't heard of the Flying Tomato?--and with sponsorship from the likes of Mountain Dew, NBC, Panasonic, Toyota and others these tour stops are an exhibition in extreme air, extreme hair and big money.

At Friday's Skateboard Park Course finals, the capacity crowd witnessed the 11-year-old street phenom Nyjah Huston of Davis, CA rip up the course and finish second to two-time Dew Tour champ Jereme Rogers. Brazilian Rodolfo Ramos skated into third. If you go, check out the Action Sports Festival Village and get an autograph from Shaun White, Dave Mirra or Travis Pastrana. Vertical skateboarding and BMX are hosted inside the Pepsi Center, while street skateboarding, BMX dirt and freestyle motocross surround the village outside.
