Dick Lamm's Extremist Comments

Dick Lamm continues to tarnish his image with outrageous comments about immigration and minorities. His latest:
Former Gov. Richard Lamm is under fire for comments in a recent speech and in his new book that Hispanics remain an "underclass" in America because their culture is "not success-producing."....In the 80-page paperback published in January, Lamm argues that Hispanics and blacks need to take responsibility for their "underperformance" and should adopt the values of the Japanese and Jews. ...."Racism and discrimination clearly still exist, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that the problem of minority underperformance is much broader and more nuanced than can be explained by the impact of racism alone," he wrote.
Reaction to Lamm's comments?
Fidel "Butch" Montoya, former Denver manager of safety and a leader of Confianza, a Hispanic clergy group, said he's "outraged" by Lamm's comments. "I couldn't believe that in this day and age that someone would be so open with a sense of bigotry and extremism," Montoya said.
Lamm doesn't seem to mind.
"All great truths begin as heresies," he added.
Being a heretic does not excuse bigotry. Tolerance is a far better virtue, and one our former governor should have learned long ago.

Im moving to Colorado!

I love how libs cannot logically refute conservative ideas and resort to name calling, kind of like the post of javadawg. For example, Lamm has said, "History shows that no nation can survive the tension, conflict, and antagonism of two or more competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; however, it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. The historical scholar, Seymour Lipset, put it this way: 'The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension, and tragedy.' Canada , Belgium , Malaysia, and Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with Basques, Bretons, Corsicans and Muslims." This is exactly correct. It is fact and cannot be refuted by anyone with a little knowledge of these countries. Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

First of all, JOHN, as for name- calling, isn't "liberal" thrown around (along with variations) as a dirty-term? / I wrote a published piece (in an insignificant publicaion) years ago. I said that language differences were hurting our ability to communicate. Since English is on the way to being a global language (and is my first l&nguage) it was my preference. But I wondered, with so many Chinese, if their language would win out (if they got rid of dialects). / But here are the stickers: 1) The US has this us-and-them / build-a-wall mentality. The teeming masses will eventually tear the wall down - unless they are killed first. / 2) How do we stop the population pollution? I see no effort to address what I call the Testosterone Factor (sorry guys). Babies are being pumped onto the planet faster than they can be cared for, loved and educated. / Religious Fundamentalists (a huge part of earth population) make lots of babies that are then brainwashed with the us-and-them mentality. / What's the answer, guys? What do you suggest for the future - if there is one? // Jean Clelland-Morin, your friendly, neighborhood, heathen lefty.

Dick Lamm is a moron. Plain and simple. Anybody who can believe the deffication that comes out of his mouth including Mr. Lamm is either disturbed, or hates this country. Yet he won't move!?!?!!! He obviously has no respect for the sanctity of Human life if he can sugest old people should die as a duty to society. Even socialists aren't this bad. He's old, why doesn't he die...never happen (I know, I know but not soon enough) !

White Culture built this country end of story don't be brainwashed. The holidays the foods we eat are ways of agriculture and industry. All came from white culture. Some things may have came from some minoritie groups Don't get me wrong. I know there is something they did that I just can not realy think of anything I would have to do a little research something that helped hmmmmmm?????

People better wake up and look around at what's happening in this country. I was not raised to be a racist or a bigot. I agree with the former comments. Since when do you have to allow illegals in this country to be on the side of diversity. All people should be welcomed in this country if they go about it in a legal manner and not expect everything handed to them. If they are living in this country illegally they have no rights. I am quite worried for my children/grandchildren and what they are going to have to contend with if things don't change soon. Legal Americans need to rally and insist our lawmakers enforce the laws.

I agree with you Rod. It's not racism and bigotry it's about patriotism! It's not about immigration! It's about ilegally entering and not having respect for the laws of our country. There was a time when immigrants that came to this country were proud to be called Americans. Now they come here and wave the flags of the countries they have fled and demand the US change it's laws and customs to accomodate them. If they want to live here and be a citizen of this country, then being an American comes first. This is the land of opportunity. Many people have been born here or have come here with nothing and turned their lives around with little more than their own grit. They didn't seek government handouts or special treatment due to their plight. The American way of life, our laws, our customs, is what makes this country so great! It is the reason, for centuries, others have sought refuge within our borders. So why are they so hell bent to change US? The only way to hold this country together is if the people put being American first.

Dick Lamn has all the symptoms of a psycho. he claims he is not a racist, yet he continues to make racist rants. The guy is not right. It's a shame that Colorado elected him to office.

We can have diversity, compassion and all of the other good things in life, without illegal immigration. When did it become wrong to abide by our laws and? We are not narrow minded bigots because we love our nation the way it was framed to be. The people that come here legally and illegally, come here for the benefits that this country has to offer over what they left behind. These benefits are here because of our system of government, laws and opportunity. The more we subvert this the more our country becomes like the ones they left behind.

How sad. I tell my students that as they enter the world you will see what you want to see. If you see the bad - that is all you will see and you will become old cranky and bitter much like Mr. Lamm has become. When you look for the good - that is what you will also see - humans by nature are good. When I look across the diversity of our landscape - yes, I do see those who are fat, lazy and incompetent, but I also see it is not just hispanics or blacks - it is every social group that has their "low-level performers". Mr. Lamm demonstrates and is backed by the empty rhetoric of the name callers whose conservative Republican philosphy has divided this great country. Suicide ? Only in your deluded mind Mr. Lamm. I feel sorry for you and those who you indoctrinate. Most of those I meet have only one thing in common that I see - a lack of a good education. Many may have a degree, but they lack the ability to see, to empathize and to know the human animal. Too bad - "low level learner" in action. Diversity, diversity ,diversity - that is the key word to the human species. No Mr. Lamm the segregated societies of the past are gone. Hopefully as the new generations come to power those with your thnking will die off and with them, the conservative movement with their racist and bigoted attitudes will follow.

You are incorrectly mistaking healthy political rhetoric with bigotry and imflammatory remarks. Lamm is expressing the view of about 8/10 people I know - black, white, Mexican, whatever. Why? Because the people I associate with are successful for their own ambition and efforts. None of them sat around waiting for a handout and blaming everyone but themselves for their conditions. I just got a PT job to help stay on top of bills and so on. It was actually pretty easy - I had the choice between 3 jobs in two weeks. Look - it's a great big world out there and sure, there are a lot of racist and generally oppressive people. That has little to do with very many of today's youth. The efforts at supporting the minority populations in everything from medical care to education have turned the tables and anyone who has ever worked in a public services program in even a mid-size US City, can tell you that minorities have more opportunities than non-minorities. Reverse racism has infiltrated our institutions because of what I call the "Dangerously Uneducated" like yourselves. You get one degree from a bunch of books and about 15 self-righteous professors at a young impressionable age and then you run out into the world and try to apply your classroom experience to real-life situations.

Excellent retort, Bill Powell! All I would have added was an extra "nanny-nanny boo boo, stick your head in poo-poo" at the end, just to amplify your well-articulated point.

As usual you libs are so blind to the truth. Your ignorance is exceeded only by your arrogance.

Dick Lamm continues to dig himself into a hole. Here are some more examples of his impoverished thinking. Once Lamm made the following statement:"Elderly should step aside and do their duty to die so that health care resources could be made available for the young" It is also my understanding that Mr. Lamm several years ago wanted to support an organization that would drain water out of the underground auqifier of the San Luis Valley, and sell the water to other states in the US. Bad thinking since it would obviously create a dust bowl in the San Luis Valley. In my oppinion, Mr. Lamm's most recent comments about blacks and hispanics, only illustrates that he must have had some past bad experiences with these minority groups. Instead of growing past these bad feelings, he seems to me to manifest his hurtfull feelings into prejudice. Tell me mister Lamm. If their were not blacks or hispanics on this earth. Would you instead be supporting a campaign to prevent asians and jews from migrating to the US ?
