Almost every time Rep. Tom Tancredo speaks these days, I shake my head in a combination of disbelief and confusion. First I wonder, is he serious? Concluding that he is, I wonder how anyone can take him seriously. Tancredo's latest is a recommendation that we abolish minority caucuses like the National Black Caucus, Hispanic Caucus, etc. He believes they promote segregation. I agree with those who say this is just another race-baiting tactic:

The black, Hispanic and Asian-American caucuses exist because few members of Congress come from those racial groups and they need a unified voice, said Rep. Raul M. Grijalva, D-Ariz.

In the law arena, we have African-American, Hispanic, Asian and Women's Bar Associations. They serve a vital function -- promoting issues that pertain to their members. What's wrong with that? They aren't advocating discrimination. They advocate for the politics of inclusion, not exclusion, like segregationists. Is Tancredo just vying for attention? I wish I knew. He makes no sense to me.
