Taylor Phinney: World Champion!

Major congratulations to 17-year-old Taylor Phinney of Boulder who earlier today won the world time trial title at the 2007 UCI Junior Road and Track World Championships in Aguascalientes, Mexico. Taylor rides for the TIAA-CREF/5280 squad and was featured in our July issue as Denver's Top Up-and-Comer. Guess we got that one right, huh? At a time when the sport is deservedly under fire, a big win like this from a kid who rides for a scrupulously clean team is something all cycling fans can take comfort in. But enjoy it while you can. Tomorrow's going to be yet another bad day for pro cycling. Trust me on this one. Update (8:00 a.m. 8/10/07): Team Discovery disbands.
