Urban Cowboy

The ASCENT Foundation is gearing up for its 6th annual Urban Cowboy fundraiser, to benefit Colorado Youth at Risk. It's a big Western-themed fundraising bash that should draw 500 city slickers to the Walnut Foundry on Saturday night for bull riding, cow roping, line dancing, arm wrestling, and cow milking competitions. Um... seriously? Cow milking? "Everyone asks about the cow milking," said Jim Guttau, a board member for ASCENT and spokesperson for the event, earlier today when I asked the obvious question. The answer: "No real cows are harmed in this event." You'll test your milking prowess on a painted plywood Bessie with fake rubber udders. Think you can fill the pail the quickest? Or ride the mechanical bull the longest? Get your $70 tickets -- which include a BBQ buffet, beer, wine, and a martini bar -- at www.ascentfoundation.com. I'm going to have to find a proper get-up for this country & western shindig. Guttau told me that in past years, 95% of the 25-40 year old patrons went all out on their Western wear.
